About Resist
(from Goodreads)
Abby Kelley returns home from the Greater city of Olympus to find that things in Orchard Village are bad, very bad. The Olympian Guard has taken over village affairs. The Lessers are being worked to the bone in the coldest winter Orchard has seen. Villagers are being dragged away for the slightest indication of what they call “resistance.” She needs to keep her head down and her mouth shut. But, it’s so hard to do when everything within you screams rebellion.
Kyan is coming on strong, trying to convince her to take a chance on him. Shocking news of Crew’s activities in Olympus sweeps through the Villages. When Abby is taken away by the Olympian guard, Kyan sends word to Vesuvius for help. But, no one could have predicted their idea of help or what they might expect in return.
Who will be left to pick up the pieces of Abby’s heart?

Review
Resist picks up right where Reap left off, but with enough details to kickstart my memory about past events. Abby returns home, but she's forever changed from her time in Olympus. Then, she realizes her home is in even more danger. Can she do what's necessary to save those she cares about?
Abby is such a compelling character. Even in her moments of strength, we see her soft side. She's confused, thanks to a lot of information being thrown at her, but determined to do the right thing. Even her heart is conflicted. She loves, in some capacity, three guys--Crew, Kyan, and Gray--and each of them has a hand in her fate. I love that she's honest about her feelings, although sometimes this means hurting someone she cares about.
Before starting book two, I was leaning toward Team Kyan, but I was greatly torn. In Resist, I was solidly Team Gray, but I cared for Crew and Kyan and each broke my heart in some capacity. Abby goes through so much in this novel, and I can't wait to see how she comes through it in book three. So far, she has grown with each new challenge. Plus, a key character comes back into Abby's life, but whether it's a good or bad thing remains to be seen.
There were two major events in this novel that brought tears to my eyes. You know you are invested in a story when that happens. If this review seems vague, it's because I don't want to give anything away--I don't want to spoil the exhilarating ride for anyone.
From page one, I was invested in this story and the characters. Book three can't get here soon enough.
Note: While there were a few editing errors, it wasn't enough to pull me away from the excellent story.
Rating: 4.5 stars

Resistance
(The Variant Series, #2)
Genre: YA
Fantasy
Check out on Goodreads!
Synopsis: Alexandra Parker might be the most powerful Variant the world has ever seen—but even that won’t get her out of finishing her junior year of high school.
The challenge of keeping her abilities under wraps during class is daunting enough, but throw one surly, sandy-haired Jumper into the mix, and things can get downright complicated.
Declan’s new job? Watch over Alex while she’s at school and do everything in his power to keep her from losing control. But as sparks of every kind begin flying between Alex and her new bodyguard, she's left feeling more unstable than ever.
When avoiding her abilities results in a surprise visit from her parents’ killer, Alex’s worlds collide with a bang that nearly levels Bay View High.
With her freedom now squarely in the Agency’s crosshairs, Alex will be faced with the fight of her life… and a decision that could forever alter the course of her destiny.
Sneak Peek
Kenzie drummed her fingers idly on the top of her desk. Slouched in her seat, she stared unblinking at the black hands of the clock mounted to the wall above the whiteboard. All around the room, students waited in small groups for the bell to release them and their weekend to begin.
Three
minutes until the final bell.
Three
minutes, and she’d be free.
Three
minutes, thought
Kenzie, and I’ll be on my way toward my next coffee fix.
That bell
really needed to hurry itself up.
She had
places to be.
Kenzie
sighed. The longer she went without a fix, the harder it was to silence the
thoughts emanating from the sea of humanity around her.
Caffeine
meant focus.
Focus
meant an easier time of keeping the walls up and the voices out.
She
wondered, briefly, what telepaths did before the discovery of
caffeinated beverages. The thought made her shudder. Control without stimulants
in the bloodstream was possible, of course. But it was far from a pleasant way
to go. Especially in populated areas.
Wham!
Kenzie
jolted upright, the sudden movement causing her desk to bang into the back of
the seat in front of her.
Something
had just slammed into her mental walls with enough force to send a stab of pain
through her temple.
What the
crap was that?
Around
the room, the steady flow of conversation dried up.
It wasn’t
just Kenzie. That pulse had hit everyone.
Even the
norms.
Kenzie
got slowly to her feet.
A funny
thing happens when norms experience Variant abilities firsthand. Instead of
seeing the supernatural for what it is, nine times out of ten, they will
translate their experience into something that better fits the rules of their
reality.
The
brilliant light of a jumper’s teleport becomes a camera flash, the telekinetic
movement of objects through the air gets blamed on a strong gust of wind, and
mental assaults are automatically translated into something external.
“Did you
hear that?” asked a freckle-faced blonde from across the aisle. “Sounded like a
sonic boom, or something.”
“Yeah! I heard
it, too!” said another. “Wonder what it was?”
She
supposed the better question was not what was it, but who was it?
The wave
came again, this time with twice the strength behind it. Kenzie grabbed for the
back of her seat to keep from losing her balance.
Fear.
The wave
wasn’t a thought, it was a distilled emotion. Someone, somewhere, was
absolutely terrified.
Judging
from the nervous expressions on the faces of the students around her, that fear
was not only being broadcast to the rest of the school, it was also creeping
its way into their subconscious.
Kenzie
sifted through the residue of the psychic onslaught in an attempt to identify
the source.
The
second she caught a glimpse of that all too familiar thought signature, she
cursed—loudly, to the surprise of the students standing stock-still beside
her—before sprinting toward the door.
Halfway
down the locker-lined hall the ground began to shudder, the floor practically
roiling beneath her feet.
Earthquake? she wondered.
But this
was Florida. Florida didn’t have earthquakes.
Declan
appeared at the other end of the hall, running in her direction.
“Where is
she?” called Kenzie.
Her
brother ducked through a swinging door just ahead of her.
The
girl’s bathroom?
Kenzie
followed him in.
“Oh my
god.”
Alex was
on her knees in a shallow sea of water, dripping wet, her hands clutching the
sides of her head.
Water
flooded the room. The porcelain sinks lining the wall lay shattered and in
pieces on the ground. A large, spherical indentation was blasted into the wall
behind Alex and what could only be burn marks scorched onto the ceiling
above.
As Kenzie
watched in amazement, strands of water began swirling around her friend,
encasing her in a glittering sphere of liquid before losing form and crashing
back down around her.
A shimmer
of light rippled across Alex’s body, distorting her appearance like a mirage on
desert sand.
“I
can’t…” Alex was sobbing. “There are too many, Declan. I can’t make them stop!”
Declan
edged as close to Alex as he dared, his expression grim.
Alex
finally lifted her head to look at them.
Kenzie
took an involuntary step backward. She had seen the way a jumper’s eyes changed
color, the brilliant violet light causing their eyes to glow brightly in the
moments before and after they teleported, but Alex’s normally gray eyes were
now shifting colors with every beat of her heart.
Jade.
Violet.
Ruby.
Azure.
Black.
Alex
collapsed.
The
rumbling in the floor intensified, sending Declan into action. He sloshed through
the water, reaching down to grip Alex under her arms.
“Get the
door,” he called over his shoulder.
Kenzie
held the door for Declan as he dragged Alex into the deserted hallway.
“Take my
arm,” he ordered, maintaining his hold on Alex. “Let’s go, Kenzie.”
Terrified
of being this close to Alex during a meltdown, but knowing her brother would
leave her behind if she didn’t act fast, Kenzie lurched forward and grabbed
Declan’s upper arm.
They
jumped with the sound of the final bell ringing in their ears.

After catching her boyfriend in the arms of the prettiest girl in school, she made the journey from social elite to social pariah in a haze of electricity and exploding electronics. Absolution (The Broken Diaries) by Carlyle Labuschagne Cover Reveal
Absolution
Confessions of a clone
Confessions of a clone
is book one in The Broken Diaries series of novellas.
Can be read as a stand alone or as a companion novella to
Expected release date: October 2014
Genre: Upper YA Science Fiction
(Unedited)
So my secret is out you say? That
would depend witch secret you are referring to. That I am a clone? Everyone
knows that by now. Or that I have a dark disease pulsating through my veins,
one I am quite fond of? Big deal. It’s exciting, never to have to hold back,
unpredictability is a drug. We all crave it.
So what possible secret could I hold that is worth keeping? Imagine me
giving you a sly smirk right now because I have not the misfortune of
compassion that will cause me to spill my secrets. Without them there is no
hand to be dealt.
Will my secret keep him close?
Perhaps. But here is my confession, I have something better than secrecy. I
have absolution. With me, he is not bound, it will be out of choice. With me, he
never has to hold back. And I would love him for the good and especially in the
bad. When I gave my word that I’d stop my tricks – I lied. That’s the thing with
obsession. I does not care. It only wants, and it is so fixated on want, that
it becomes need, and it shall have all it wants and needs. And while I have no time to ponder who I am, clone
– what a stupid word, I am already on my way to loving him forever. That’s how
I play it, because I just don’t care. Everyone
knows I am nothing like my pathetic prime. That with me, it’s all bad
intentions and violent, narcissistic adoration. That is not who I am. I am but
one thing - in absolution.

Review
Abby "Blue" Kelley feels blessed. Her life is quite full thanks to her loving guardian, Lulu, and her two best friends, Ky and Laney. She's ready to do her part to make sure the apple harvest goes well for her village, but things start to get complicated. First, Kyan would like their relationship to go past friend status; Abby loves him, but more like a brother. Then the Councilman's son, an unsavory fellow from an equally unsavory family, expresses his desire to marry Abby. Actually, he demands it.
To further complicate things, a newcomer from another village comes into town. Crew is drawn to Abby, and she to him. Unfortunately, nothing is as it seems. Things progress to a desperate decision; one that leaves Abby struggling to save herself and her village. Will she find love, or will love be the very thing that threatens everything she holds dear?
I love how the book started--"The few minutes before dawn were usually the most serene. Not today. Today, everything would change"--and then built to a dramatic conclusion without missing a beat in between. Abby embodies strength, facing difficult challenges head on. She handles Ky's feelings for her with grace, and she considers how her decisions will affect those she cares about; even if it means she'll be unhappy. So love her as a character!
For those who love romance, this is a real roller coaster ride--in a good way. Ky found a soft spot in my heart, I must admit, even though I knew Abby's heart was with Crew. Not that love is ever perfect, but Crew had some strikes against him. For now, I'm leaning to Team Ky (but it's a slight lean).
For adrenaline junkies, the last half of the story is full of surprises--well played twists and turns with dramatic results. Casey L Bond spins a unique tale with an age old dilemma--the haves (Greaters) versus the have-nots (Lessers). Of course, I'm not going to give anything away here except to say... be prepared for jaw-dropping revelations. Just when I thought the story couldn't get any better, it did.
Although there were a few grammar hiccups, Casey L Bond has a writing style that pulls you in and doesn't let go. Reap is a real winner, and I can't wait for the next book!
