The Gift of Reading: Musing Mondays

Today's Musing Mondays prompt from Should be Reading:

Will you be buying books for the holidays, this year? If so, for whom, and why?

Yes, lots and lots of books. I bought several books when Borders was closing down. I've stockpiled them. Some will make their way into Christmas/holiday wrapping paper, but others have already been given away. I couldn't stand to see all those books on Borders' shelves, all needing homes. They looked all pristine and unloved, no tattered edges or turned down pages. (My soft heart for things that need a home is a reason I don't go into pet stores.)

I'm fortunate that most members of my family are avid readers. A book is never a disappointing gift in my sphere. Actually, my preteen daughter would, GASP, rather have books than clothes. I know, this probably won't last, but I'm enjoying it while it does.

I've even hunted down autographed and special edition books for family members in past years. What I love about books is how personal you can get. You can really show how well you know a person with a book. And I always get bookstore gift certificates for my girls' teachers. Most of them love to read or need books for their classrooms.

Since my new goal is to support indie and small press books and local businesses, this year I will be giving gift certificates to our local bookstore.

A good book is a gift that will always be with you, even if you share it or give it away. The characters, the story, and the memories stay.

Do you gift books?

That's a great goal. Good luck. I think sharing the gift of reading a book is wonderful thing to share. :D Here's my MM post.
