Remembrance (Transcend Time #1), Michelle Madow (4 stars)

About Remembrance

Lizzie Davenport has been reincarnated from Regency Era, England ... but she doesn't know it yet.

Then Drew Carmichael transfers into Lizzie's high school, and she feels a connection to him, almost like she knows him. She can't stop thinking about him, but whenever she tries talking with him about the mysteries behind her feelings, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Reaching him is even more difficult because she has a boyfriend, Jeremy, who has started to become full of himself after being elected co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and her flirtatious best friend Chelsea starts dating Drew soon after his arrival. So why can't she get him out of her mind?

Even though Lizzie knows she should let go of her fascination with Drew, fighting fate isn't going to be easy.

Review

The cover alone intrigued me... it's gorgeous and such a great representation of the book. Then I started reading, and I was equally impressed. Lizzie has a life many teenagers would envy. She's dating a guy several other girls want and she's happy. Then, the new boy, Drew, sits next to her in class and stirs up something new and exciting. But how can she feel such strong feelings so quickly?

Drew seems as pulled to her as she is to him, but then he starts telling her he needs to stay away from her for her own good. Things are further complicated when her best friend, Chelsea, falls for Drew, too. Lizzie can't stand the thought of hurting her boyfriend or her best friend, but there's something much bigger at play.

Obsessed with Pride and Prejudice, Lizzie starts to realize she knows more about that era than just from reading the book. With each new detail she remembers, it becomes clearer that she and Drew are fated to be together. But their relationship comes with risks. Will Lizzie be putting her life on the line to be with Drew?

There's a sweet simplicity about this story that really appealed to me. The details of Lizzie's former life unravel at a pace that kept me turning every page with anticipation. Ultimately, I wanted Lizzie and Drew to end up together, but I also cared about Chelsea and Lizzie's other friend, Hannah, as well as several other characters.

I highly recommend Remembrance to readers 11+ who enjoy a sweet romance with endearing characters and a compelling story. An added bonus: there are two more books in the series to enjoy.

About the Author
(from Amazon)

In the fall of 2008, Michelle saw Taylor Swift's "Love Story" music video for the first time. She thought up a story to go along with the video, and decided to write the beginning of this story as a homework assignment for class. That story eventually became Remembrance, the first novel of the Transcend Time Saga. She's so happy to be able to share this series with you, and hopes you enjoy reading it as much as she loved writing it!

Note: I am so excited to pass this on to my 12-year-old daughter. I wanted to read it first to make sure it was appropriate, because Young Adult books can be all over the place, especially for preteens. I will post her review when she's read it.

Because I enjoyed this book so much, I wanted to mention Book #2. I hope to be able to read it soon!

About Vengeance
(Transcend Time #2)

How far would you go to get revenge?

When Chelsea Givens discovered that her ex-boyfriend Drew dumped her to be with her former best friend Lizzie, she'd never felt so betrayed in her life. Then her new friend Shannon tells her she can help set things right. Chelsea's willing to listen, but what Shannon wants her to believe -- that she shared a past life with Drew -- is impossible. And what she wants her to do to get him back ... well, it's downright crazy.

Could Shannon be telling the truth? And if she is, what lengths will Chelsea go if it means making Lizzie pay?

Find out in Vengeance, the second part of the Transcend Time Saga.

*Vengeance is a 12,000 word short story.
